Pingtung county is located in the southernmost of Taiwan.  It is surrounded the oceans and rivers: the Taiwan Strait to the west, the Bashi Channel to the south, Gao Ping River to the north which connects to Kaohsiung County. Pingtung County can also go along the Central Range of Taiwan to Taitung County.  Pingtung is about 112 kilometers from the south to the north and 47 kilometers from the east to the west, about 2,775 kilometer square in total.  It governs 33 cities and towns in all- Pingtung City, Chaojhou Township, Donggang Township, Hengchun Townshi and others.  There are 21 lowland towns among the 29 towns- Jiuru, Ligang, Yenpu, Gaoshu, Changjhih, Linluo, Neipu, Wanluan, Jhutian, Wandan, Sinyuan, Kanding, Linbian, Jiadung, Nanjhou, Sinpi, Fangliau, Fangshan, Checheng, Manjhou, the off-shore township- Liouciou and 8 indigenous townships- Sandimen, Wutai, Majia, Laiyi, Taiwu, Chunrih, Shi-Zi, Mudan and so on.  The total population in Pingtung County is about 900,000.
