When Taiwan was recovered from Japan, Pintung County was not founded yet. There was Pingtung City Government in charge of the eastern, southern, northern and central districts. Later on, neighboring areas of Chiuju, then-Changchih (now Linlo) merged into a provincial city with seven districts. In the meantime Pintung City Council, the predecessor of Pingtung County Council, was established. Nevertheless, other townships and villages were under the jurisdiction of Kaohsiung County. In 1950, the administrative area of Taiwan and Penghu was reorganized and Pingtung County was established, consequently. The provincial city of Pingtung was changed toPingtung City under the jurisdiction of Pingtung County. The original City Council wasrenamed as Pingtung County Council. Moreover, it was moved from Peiping Road( the Taxes Office during Japanese colonial period) to Jihchun Building at the intersection of Minchuan Road and Linsen Road. In August of 1961, the county council was moved to 85 Minchuan Road, and then it has been relocated at the current address since the new building was completed inJuly, 1995.
